Whispering Canyon Café - The Wilderness Lodge
For this inaugural entry on the MMV by Vanessa Food Blog we visited one of Walt Disney World's Deluxe resorts, The Wilderness Lodge, and The Whispering Canyon Café. To start we recommend making a reservation to visit this sit-down dining location. The restaurant is located right inside the lobby of the resort and the smells will draw you right to it. The atmosphere places you in a cabin enjoying a meal with your family. From the decor, all the way down to the menu everything is fun and relaxed. Your servers take amazing care of you while joking with you throughout the length of your meal.
Next, the food. There are two menus available at the Café; brunch and dinner. Both are loaded with classics like burgers and ribs. But we feel that the stars of the show are the bottomless skillets. For $26 a skillet (per person) you can order one of 3 all-you-can-eat skillets. During our trip we ordered 2 of the three and were so enthralled with the food, they nearly had to roll us out. The Heritage skillet came with flaky house-made biscuits that you could see the dots of butter in, sausage gravy that was seasoned to perfection, fluffy scrambled eggs, country potatoes that were cut in wedges, hickory smoked bacon that was so crispy you could hear the sizzle when they brought it out, sausage links that were delectable when dipped in syrup, and the classic Mickey waffle.
The other skillet we ordered was The Carnivore. In this meat-centric skillet, you found house-made cornbread that was served with honey butter and a berry compote (that we recommend putting on the Mickey waffles or eating on its own), Maple-chipotle barbeque pork ribs that were so tender, beef brisket smoked with oak that was cooked with such care that it melted in your mouth, pulled pork that was so flavorful it left you craving more, citrus herb chicken packed with citrus and herb flavors, country potatoes wedges, buttered corn, and charred carrots that rounded out the meal and added to the complexity of the flavors in the skillet.
Additionally, after you finish your initial skillet you can always switch it up. Did you get The Carnivore but saw a Mickey waffle and wanted some breakfast too? That’s not a problem! You can order a different skillet for the next round.
Our first culinary excursion at Whispering Canyon will not be our last. With the bang for your buck skillets packed with flavor and an atmosphere that feels like home, we strongly recommend getting a reservation today.
